Georgia lawmakers passed a bill today allowing several research institutions the legal ability to finally begin conducting medical research on medicinal uses of the marijuana plant. This is a big deal because currently it is illegal on the federal level. Marijuana and every part of the plant is considered to be a schedule 1 controlled substance, under Federal law that makes it a crime to conduct research on the plant for medicinal purposes.
Park, who specializes in pediatric epilepsy and treats patients at Children’s Hospital of Georgia, said he knows parents will be eager to try anything that could help their children
This law directly goes against federal regulation and technically is still illegal in every way, this simply means that Georgia lawmakers have decided that they will press on with research against the will of the federal government. A big win indeed that will hopefully filled with many more in the very near future.
