In a groundbreaking move, Georgia is set to become the first state in the United States to offer medical marijuana products at independent pharmacies.
The Georgia Board of Pharmacy has started accepting applications, and nearly 120 pharmacies have already agreed to stock medication from Botanical Sciences, one of the state’s licensed production companies. The initiative aims to make medical marijuana more accessible, especially for patients with severe illnesses such as seizures, terminal cancers, Parkinson’s disease, and PTSD.
The oil will contain no more than 5% THC, the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis. This expansion will supplement the state’s existing seven dispensaries and is expected to put 90% of Georgia’s population within a 30-minute drive of a pharmacy selling medical marijuana.
