A groundbreaking National Cannabis Study is set to revolutionize our understanding of medical marijuana. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University are spearheading this initiative, which will track the responses of approximately 10,000 patients to cannabis treatment over the course of a year.

Despite the widespread legalization and use of medical cannabis, clinicians currently lack substantial data on its therapeutic efficacy. This study, part of a larger Cannabis and Health Research Initiative, aims to fill this critical information gap.

The research team, led by Dr. Ryan Vandrey and Dr. Johannes Thrul, will collect comprehensive data on various aspects of cannabis use, including product composition, delivery methods, and dosage. Their findings could significantly impact clinical decision-making and policy development.

“We hope to provide some starting points for understanding what types of products may or may not be helpful,” Dr. Vandrey told Johns Hopkins Medicine. This ambitious project, supported by a $10 million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, promises to clear some of the smoke surrounding medical cannabis use.
