A groundbreaking study has revealed that cannabis oil containing both CBD and THC may significantly reduce seizures in children with drug-resistant epilepsy. The research, conducted over a 12-week period, involved 45 children and young adults with Dravet syndrome or Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
Participants who received the cannabis oil experienced a median 86.8% reduction in seizure frequency, compared to only 13% in the placebo group. Importantly, 84% of caregivers reported improvements in their child’s overall condition.
While the results are encouraging, researchers caution that more extensive studies are needed to fully understand the long-term effects and optimal dosing. This study, published in the journal Lancet Child & Adolescent Health, adds to the growing body of evidence supporting the potential of cannabis-based treatments for epilepsy.
