Utah’s Medical Cannabis Policy Advisory Board has voted 7-0 to recommend easing several advertising restrictions on the state’s medical cannabis program, with a focus on patient education and program awareness, according to The Marijuana Herald.
The five proposals would let medical cannabis pharmacies advertise card-enrollment and educational events, allow producers to promote educational events, permit processors to add website links or QR codes to packaging, allow pharmacies to sell or give away branded or educational merchandise, and let recommending providers advertise their services and card events. Board materials cite survey data in which 21% of non-registered cannabis users named lack of awareness as a reason for not enrolling.
The board is advisory only. Each proposal would require changes to state law, and in some cases to administrative rules, before taking effect.
