This law does indeed legalize the use of medicinal marijuana for the use in treatment of patients with epilepsy diseases. The law however does not legalize the production or sale of medicinal marijuana products and thus patients are being forced to illegally purchase their medication from other states, something few companies are willing to do as they are setting themselves up for legal action by our Federal government.
A supported of the bill, Rep. Pat McElraft reportedly said
It’s going to be wonderful for these children that are in Colorado now to be able to come back home
However the sad fact is the vast majority of these families and children will not be returning home, why would they? Colorado is one of the few states at this time to legally allow the cultivation and production of medical marijuana products while patients in North Carolina have no legal recourse for obtaining their medication.
