Georgia lawmakers have overwhelmingly backed a bill to broaden and modernize the state’s tightly regulated medical cannabis program, sending Senate Bill 220 back to the Senate for final approval after a 138–21 House vote. The measure would replace the state’s 5% THC cap with a 12,000-milligram possession limit, add new qualifying conditions such as lupus, severe arthritis and severe insomnia, and allow patients over 21 to vape medical cannabis for faster relief, while keeping smoking and edibles illegal. Supporters say the changes respond to years of patient complaints and recommendations from a House study committee, though some lawmakers still question the strength of the medical evidence.
