Georgia’s tightly controlled medical marijuana program is poised for a major expansion after Gov. Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 220 into law, with changes taking effect July 1. The measure removes previous caps on THC levels in medical cannabis products and will allow additional forms, including flower and vape cartridges, to be sold to registered patients.

At Botanical Sciences in Pooler, staff are preparing to stock the new product types, which they say will offer patients more flexible options for managing conditions such as chronic pain and PTSD. Lupus has also been added as a qualifying condition, expanding access to more Georgians seeking relief. Supporters argue the move could keep patients from crossing state lines or turning to the illicit market, while keeping spending within Georgia’s regulated system.
