Louisiana lawmakers have approved a bill that would permit certain terminally ill patients to use medical marijuana within healthcare facilities, sending the measure to Governor Jeff Landry for final consideration. Senate Bill 270 passed the House 54–44 after previously clearing the Senate with strong support.
The proposal applies to patients diagnosed with terminal and irreversible conditions who already qualify for medical marijuana under state law. While smoking and vaping would remain prohibited, patients or their caregivers would be responsible for handling and administering cannabis products.
Healthcare staff would be barred from involvement, and facilities would be required to establish internal policies and training. If enacted, the law would take effect August 1, 2026. Full details are available via the original report from The Marijuana Herald.
