Georgia patients can now buy medical marijuana, marking a milestone for those suffering from serious medical conditions and the start of a potentially lucrative new industry in the state.

Georgia began carving a path for the sale of low-dose THC oil in 2015, but because of years of delays and disputes, it wasn’t legal to buy it until now.

On April 26, five dispensing license applications were approved by the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission. That included three from Trulieve GA Inc. for dispensaries in Pooler, Marietta and Macon, as well as two from Botanical Sciences LLC for dispensaries in Marietta and Pooler.

Two dispensaries are currently open, according to the cannabis commission, which tracks the locations on its website. Trulieve has two locations operating: 220 Cobb Parkway North in Marietta and 3556 Riverside Drive in Macon.
